Join Steam Incorporated aboard The Timaru Flyer for a fantastic day out by rail, travelling south from Rolleston across the wide-open Canterbury Plains to the heart of South Canterbury.
Leading the way will be Steam Incorporated’s beautifully restored DC 4375, hauling a comfortable consist of modern, air-conditioned carriages thanks to Mainland Rail — the perfect way to sit back, relax and enjoy the journey as the scenery rolls by.
Option 1 - Explore Timaru at Your Leisure
Step off the train and make the most of your time in town. Wander through Timaru’s city centre, head down to beautiful Caroline Bay, find a great spot for lunch, browse the local shops, or simply enjoy a relaxed afternoon exploring at your own pace.

Make your day a little more special with a beautifully catered lunch at The Landing Service Conference Centre. Sit down, relax and enjoy a delicious meal in great company before returning to the train for the journey home.

Please note - Unlike other Steam Inc Christchurch-based journeys, this excursion train departs from Rolleston only, due to planned track works.
