The Taihape Special ** PAST TRIP
Diesel hauled excursion to Taihape
Saturday 19 March 2022
Da hauled excursion train
You're invited to the second of our birthday excursions!
Come with Steam Incorporated as we travel north from Wellington up to the Central Plateau township of Taihape,( and return). Known as the ‘Gumboot Capital’, Taihape is the quintessential Kiwi rural town which most of us just drive through, sometimes with only a blink of the eyes.
Getting there by rail is very scenic with tunnels, cuttings and viaducts, very different to driving up SH1.
The train will be hauled by our two restored DA class diesel locomotives and we will be using our fleet of classic red heritage carriages of the 1930’s including the Buffet Car. Hot and cold snack and drinks will be available during the day. We hope you will take part in our Gumboot throwing competition.
All subject to the Covid-19 Protection Framework settings specified by the government at the time including any minimum need to wear face masks and to have a verifiable vaccine pass to board the train.
Departs Wellington 6:50am. Arrives back 7:05pm.
Adult return $170. Child $85.
Also stops at Porirua, Paekakariki, Paraparaumu, Waikanae, Otaki, Levin, Shannon, Palmerston North, Fielding and Marton for pre booked passengers.
The Taihape destination replaces our earlier proposed trip to the Central District Field Days at Feilding. Unfortunately Covid has forced the cancellation of the Field Days event.
