Join Steam Incorporated for a special evening rail journey from Blenheim to Kekerengu, combining spectacular Marlborough scenery, heritage rail travel and the option of a fantastic evening meal.

With thanks to the Diesel Traction Group, our train will be hauled by beautifully restored diesel-electric locomotive Di 1102.

Departing Blenheim, we’ll climb over the Dashwood Pass before descending past the expansive salt lakes at Grassmere and continuing south through Marlborough. At Wharanui, the railway meets the Pacific Ocean for a spectacular coastal run to Kekerengu.

Our destination is The Store at Kekerengu, a popular SH1 café, restaurant and event venue overlooking the coast. The friendly team at The Store will be ready to welcome our passengers for a memorable evening by the Pacific.

Choose how you spend your time in Kekerengu:

Option 1 - Wine & Dine at The Kekerengu Store

The Store team will serve a generous spread featuring champagne ham and rare roast beef, alongside a selection of fresh summer salads and minted new potatoes. This will be accompanied by crusty bread and a selection of house-prepared chutney, horseradish and mustards.

To finish, enjoy a platter of sweet treats, with tea and coffee available from the self-service station. A cash bar will also be open throughout your time at The Store.

After dinner, it’ll be time to make your way back aboard our special heritage train, settle into your seat and enjoy the journey back to Blenheim — bringing your evening with Steam Incorporated & The Store to a relaxed conclusion.

Option 2 - Explore at your Leisure

Enjoy some free time at Kekerengu and make the evening your own. Bring along a picnic, find a spot to sit back and relax, stretch your legs, or simply take in the spectacular surroundings where the rugged Marlborough landscape meets the Pacific Ocean.

With no set itinerary, the time is yours to enjoy at your own pace before making your way back to the train for our evening journey home to Blenheim.
