A FIRST for Central Hawkes Bay Locals, departing from Waipukurau – enjoy a night out in Napier and let us look after your travel arrangements. Travel in style aboard our beautifully restored carriages as the late afternoon light fades and the charm of rail travel sets the tone for a relaxed and indulgent night out. Northbound travel is on Steam Incorporated's Heritage Train, and Southbound travel is onboard a premium coach.

The Gold Experience – Wine & Dine at Mission Estate

Elevate your evening with our all-inclusive Wine & Dine package at the iconic Mission Estate Winery — New Zealand’s oldest winery. Prefer to explore Napier at your own pace? Our Classic Rail option offers a more flexible evening out. Travel by heritage train into Napier, where you’ll have time to disembark and enjoy dinner at one of the city’s many restaurants, bars, or eateries. Whether it’s a casual bite or something a little more indulgent, the choice is yours before boarding the coach for return back to Waipukurau.

The Hawke's Bay Flyer

Saturday 18th July 2026

Join the Cancer Society Hawke's Bay, and Steam Incorporated and jump onboard for a grand day out, heading from Napier, down toward Waipukurau & Woodville. This train will be hauled by one of our heritage steam locomotives and will comprise our fleet of steel passenger cars, featuring our open viewing car! Spend the day in beautifully restored carriages as we travel through the Central Hawke's Bay, south to the heart of the Tararua district. Choose to travel through to Woodville or even jump off the train at Waipukurau for an afternoon at your leisure, before travelling back to Napier on the train later in the afternoon!

Option 1 - A Day on the Rails

Napier/Hastings to Woodville & Return

Join the train from Napier or Hastings and spend the day on the rails right through to Woodville. Upon arrival at Woodville, the entire train will be turned on the famous balloon loop for the return journey. Whilst we briefly stop at Woodville, sample the delights of the recently restored Woodville Station.

Nestle into your seats for a relaxed afternoon cruising back toward Waipukurau, where we stop for passengers, and to take on water in the steam locomotive, before travelling onward toward Hastings & Napier to finish off the day.

Napier/Hastings to Waipukurau & Return

Jump on Steam Incorporated’s red heritage train and indulge in an afternoon of heritage train travel! Board the train at Napier and nestle in for an exclusive excursion down through to Waipukurau. Grab a beverage or a snack from the train’s Lounge Car, and enjoy the rolling countryside. Having travelled by rail down to Waipukurau, disembark the train and explore the area at your leisure, before returning for the journey home.

A Night at the Movies

Saturday 18th July 2026

Step back in time for a night of glamour, cinema, and classic rail travel as Steam Incorporated presents a truly unique “Night at the Movies” experience on Saturday 18th July. Departing Napier in the evening, your journey begins aboard a beautifully restored heritage train. Settle into your seat and enjoy the atmosphere of a bygone era as you travel south by train to Waipukurau — the perfect prelude to an unforgettable night out.

On arrival, you’ll be welcomed into the charming Civic Theatre, where the magic of the Art Deco era comes to life. Enjoy a special screening of Casablanca (1942) — a timeless classic that captures the romance, intrigue, and elegance of the wartime 1940s. With its unforgettable performances, iconic dialogue, and enduring charm, this beloved film offers a perfect cinematic journey back in time. Art Deco dress is greatly encouraged! This is an 18+ event.

All aboard for a fun-filled family afternoon as Steam Incorporated presents The Movie Magic Express — a relaxed and memorable “trip to the movies” by heritage train.

Departing Napier in the early afternoon, climb aboard our beautifully restored carriages and enjoy a scenic journey south to Waipukurau. With plenty of space to sit back, chat, and take in the passing countryside, the journey itself is all part of the adventure — perfect for kids and adults alike.

On arrival, you’ll head into the charming Civic Theatre for an exclusive family-friendly screening of the upcoming live-action Moana (live-action adaptation). In “Moana,” Disney’s live action reimagining of the beloved Oscar®-nominated animated adventure, Moana (Catherine Lagaʻaia) answers the Ocean’s call and, for the first time, voyages beyond the reef of her island of Motunui with the infamous demigod Maui (Dwayne Johnson) on an unforgettable journey to restore prosperity to her people.

Takapau Steam Express

Step aboard Steam Incorporated’s red heritage train for a delightful family outing during Winter Deco Weekend! Enjoy a short return journey from Waipukurau to Takapau, designed with families in mind. Experience travel behind our 110-year-old steam locomotive in one direction and our classic 1955 heritage diesel on the other. Ride in authentic 1930s-era carriages and take in the sights from our open viewing platform for a truly nostalgic experience.
