Join us for an excursion to Woodville via the beautiful Manawatu Gorge!

Sunday 11th May 2025

Join Steam Incorporated, on a special steam & diesel hauled day excursion in support of Dementia Wellington!

Picking up along the way from Wellington, Porirua, Paraparaumu, Waikanae, Otaki, Levin, and Palmerston North, our destination today is Woodville. To get there, we travel through the famous Manawatu Gorge. Now only accessible via rail, you get a unique perspective of the monumental slips which closed the Gorge to road traffic from 2017.

At Woodville, sample the delights of the restored 1960s era station whilst our train is prepared for the run back to Wellington. Meridian’s Te Apiti wind farm can also be seen from the station, occupying 1,150ha of land, with enough sustainable renewable energy to power 45,000 kiwi homes.

Between Wellington & Paekakariki in both directions, our heritage Da class diesel electrics will take charge of the train, with one of our coal-fired steam locomotives doing the honours between Paekakariki and Woodville & Return.

A portion of all proceeds will go directly to Dementia Wellington to support them in their important work.

Please see provisional timetable below:

Please be at your boarding station minimum 10 minutes prior ready to roll, with your tickets, carriage number and seating allocations at the ready.

Catering

A small service is available throughout from Car P – Lounge Car, offering a selection of alcoholic & non-alcoholic beverages, tea/coffee and some light snacks and food options. All alcohol must be consumed on board, no alcohol is to leave the train. BYO is prohibited. On board services are limited and while stock lasts!
